Mud Lake Fire
Mike Slade, a good friend of mine who is teaching a photography class for us this summer, and I took a drive to Atomic City, up to Howe, and through Mud Lake back to Rexburg. It was fun to spend a good bit of time with Mike and show him a little bit of the state.
Mike has borrowed a big (12x20") camera from his graduate professor. So, he was anxious to get out and photograph with it. On our way to Mud Lake, where we thought we might make a few photographs, we saw a big plume of smoke. It looked pretty intriguing, so we drove in that direction. We discovered a bunch of burning straw bales and stayed past sunset photographing them. Mike even managed to shoot 4 sheets of 12x20 film. It was a great evening.

Oh man, now I've 'arrived'. I'm on Darren's blog, which actually is a big honor.
What a fire...the cameras still stink! Definitely Blog-worthy.
Processing film from the 12x20 tonight. We'll see how they turn out.
Darren got the best image of the whole evening, of course it was the last shot he took (last of the 3 he's showing on the Blog).
that has got to be craig's camera. i used that thing (it's like watching tv when you're making a picture)! i rememberthat there wasn't a lens cap so you had to drape the dark cloth over the lens before exposing the film. it was a fun camera to use. i recall that i packed it around on a hand truck when i used it at the first mammoth camera workshop.
You didn't mention you stunk so bad when you got home Susan made you put your clothes directly in the washer.
Darren always stinks...just kidding! I really like the last photo.
Atomic city? Isn't that just east of the Big southern butte? You could have gone up on top...it's a fun ride!
12 X 20!!! So you got a jobo tank big enough for that? Or will they be processed by hand in a tray?
"Oh it's pretty big."
Mike tray-processed them with pretty good results.
Is somebody making soup?
Soup?
"I never smile if I can help it. Showing ones teeth is a submission signal in primates. When someone smiles at me, all I see is a chimpanzee begging for its life."
Did you see last weeks?
Good one eh?
I think if you have never watched the Office you would be completely lost in this conversation.
