Potato Harvest
With the help of one of my students, who introduced me to a manager of one of the potato farms near Newdale, I was able to photograph potato harvest a couple of different times this week. It was pretty fun, but the weather was a disaster both days (very windy on Wednesday and rainy today). Therefore, I was only able to photograph inside the cellars. I think it's a good start, but I hope to do a bit more this week. I'd like to get a couple of overviews of the operation and maybe a few portraits. The first two images are inside an older dirt and straw cellar. The other images are inside a modern cellar. Anyway, here are the first efforts.

It's amazing how many potatoes there are just in that small section of the cellar.
Wow!! That is a lot of potatoes. Did they tell you about how many were in there?
They said like a thousand or so.
Wow. This is definitely a different look for you Darren. Be careful, just thinking about shooting an environmental portrait will turn you into a photojournalist.
Nice work. Makes me hungry for a baked potatoe.
Did you make arrangements to get us some spuds? We could use about 200 pounds. Check into it for us. (That's your assignment every year from now on!) It is amazing how huge these cellars are inside. And what a mountain of potatoes!
You've got a great start on this project; we look forward to seeing the progress! Like Michael, a good baked potato sounds mighty fine right now!
