Grasshoppers

When I was a kid I spent considerable time in the pasture behind our house catching grasshoppers and other critters. I thought it was time I introduced my older boys to the fun. We went on a walk in the arboretum (really just a bunch of weeds and russian olives). The boys really did have fun.

Ah yes, they are following in their father's footsteps--next thing you know there will be a rattlesnake in the garage and a boa constrictor in a cage in the family room!

When I was weeding the garden the other day, I found about ten worms for Ethan and he was in heaven. I like the grasshopper shot.

Ever see "What's eating Gilbert Grape" with Johnny Depp & Leonardo DeCaprio? Leo's character catches a grasshopper and 'gillotines' him in the mailbox...Ever try that one Darren?

Yes, after some coaxing Kevin held a grasshopper. No Tyler, I didn't do the mailbox thing.

A couple years ago my kids would catch grasshoppers all the time to feed to my brother-in-laws lizards. One day my wife came across this book on sale at Borders and figured we just couldn't pass it up. I did a quick search on amazon and sure enough...there it was! Its called the North American Grasshopper Guide.
